Paws Universe Foundation

Who We Are

Why Paws Universe Exists

Paws Universe Foundation brings rescue, veterinary treatment, daily feeding and lifelong sanctuary care together for community animals. It grew from personal experiences that made one truth impossible to ignore: compassion must be supported by action, knowledge and the ability to respond. Today, the Foundation supports community dogs through Paws Universe Hospital, Simbaz Sanctuary and its feeding, vaccination and rescue efforts across Gujarat.

Where Care Takes Shape

Dharmendra and Kaizer

Kaizer’s Story

Kaizer Sr. spent five difficult months without access to an accurate diagnosis or advanced veterinary treatment in Ahmedabad. During this period, he was repeatedly given antibiotics and steroids for an illness he did not have. His health gradually deteriorated, resulting in significant weight loss and a weakened immune system. Despite everything, his fighting spirit remained strong.

Dharmendra, Founder and Director of Paws Universe, continued searching tirelessly for answers. Advanced laboratory testing in Bangalore finally identified his actual condition: a treatable Hemoprotozoan infection.

On Sunday, 13 December 2020, Kaizer Sr. developed a high fever of 105°F. He was taken to a clinic and placed on an intravenous drip. However, because an indoor admission and advanced treatment facility was unavailable, he had to be taken home.

Dharmendra remained beside him and tried continuously to control his rising temperature, but the fever reached 107°F. At 1:58 AM on 14 December 2020, Kaizer Sr. passed away in Dharmendra’s arms after giving him one final gesture of love.

Kaizer Sr. was only seven years old. His condition was treatable, but delays in accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment and access to advanced veterinary infrastructure resulted in a loss that could have been prevented.

Dharmendra chose to transform this personal loss into a lasting purpose, guided by his belief:

“No one can get through life without pain, but one can choose how to use it. The deeper the pain, the greater should the purpose be.”

Paws Universe Hospital stands as a loving tribute to Kaizer Sr.’s legacy. It represents a commitment to building access to advanced diagnosis, timely treatment and dependable veterinary care, so that another animal and family do not have to experience the same outcome.

Rachna and Simba

Simba’s Story

Simba was more than a companion in Rachna’s life. Their bond was built through everyday presence, trust and quiet understanding. Caring for him deepened her awareness that animals experience comfort, fear, attachment and safety in ways that deserve patience and respect. That relationship made compassion a daily responsibility rather than an occasional response.

After Simba passed away, the care and understanding that had grown through their bond continued to guide Rachna’s choices. She began feeding community dogs around her, observing their routines and recognising when an animal needed medical attention, protection or a dependable place to recover. What began through personal acts of care gradually developed into a sustained commitment.
Rachna’s involvement extended beyond feeding. She responded to rescue situations, helped arrange treatment and took responsibility for dogs who were injured, ageing, disabled or unable to return safely to the places where they had been found.

Each animal was approached as an individual, with needs shaped by health, behaviour and past experience.

Over time, this responsibility took shape as Simbaz Sanctuary, carrying Simba’s name and the values their bond had strengthened. The sanctuary provides nutritious food, medical attention, patient recovery and a permanent home for dogs who require lifelong care. Simba’s legacy continues through a place where every resident is treated with familiarity, dignity and respect.

The Genesis of Paws Universe

One Shared Purpose

Dharmendra and Rachna came to animal welfare through different personal experiences. Kaizer’s story led Dharmendra towards the need for dependable veterinary treatment. Simba’s story led Rachna towards sustained care for community dogs and the creation of Simbaz Sanctuary.

These two paths later came together in Paws Universe Foundation, bringing rescue, treatment and sanctuary care under one shared commitment.
